The twin ponds are the first and only ponds built near the house. They are nestled behind this stone walk way and railroad tie border. The filter box is under the deck between the ponds and the house.
Mikel built these ponds before we moved into the house to have a home ready for the Koi.
The best viewing area is on the deck where our visitors are attracted to the beautiful fish and water garden.
The ponds are approximately 1500 gallons with a filter area that has a 30-gallon sump pump crock as a settling tank and two 100 gallon Rubbermaid tanks with lava rock for bio media circulating at 2000 GPH.
These two ponds are covered during the winter with 2 inch thick Styrofoam insulation and 4 mil plastic. They average 38o--42o F in the dead of winter. The pump runs at 600 GPH with risers placed on the bottom drains.
